Adding an action item at the end of an email is a game-changer!
How many emails do you send per day? Do they all say relatively the same thing? I recently experienced a dramatic increase in responses just by changing the last sentence of my emails.
When learning to write business letters and emails, we are taught to close with a “Thank you,” or “I look forward to hearing from you.” Basically, some type of soft closing to wrap things up. But why? Why was I thanking someone when they haven’t done anything, yet?
Why not close by asking them to respond?
By changing my closing statement on ten emails from “Thank you,” to “Let me know,” made a huge difference in the response. Out of the 10, six responded before the end of the day. Not all responses were sales, but at least they took the time to answer. The moral of the story is, don’t be afraid to ask for an action. You might be surprised at the response.
